Orlando Police is now offering up to a five thousand dollar reward for information in the killing of 15-year-old Corey Jones. The Jones High School student was shot just a few blocks from his Parramore home on Saturday.
Originally from Pennsylvania, Jones grew up loving the outdoors. “He didn’t want to sit inside and play video games," Corey's step-father John Keedy says. "He wanted to come out play ball, throw football, box, ride four wheelers just anything to do with being outside.”
The Jones High student loved horses and wanted to serve in the military after he graduated high school. His step father says that nothing seemed out of the ordinary that fateful afternoon.
Orlando Police are offering a reward for information on the murder of 15-year-old Corey Jones.
“We were all in the house just hanging out, watching TV. He had been in his room for a little bit talking on the phone," Keedy remembers. "Then some kids came and got him to come out and play and 20 minutes later…” Corey's step father could not finish the sentence.
OPD says no witnesses have come forward and they have very few leads. The family wants answers even more.
“We want to see justice," Keedy demands. We want families to know they need to teach their kids gun control. It's not the gun that kills the person, it’s the person that kills the person.”
On Monday evening, Corey’s family returned to the scene where their son was killed and hosted a vigil. Nearby neighbors came out, as well, holding back tears while holding candles.
“He was wonderful," Corey's mother Mary Housel struggled to say. "Corey had his ups and downs, sometimes he was a pain in the butt. Any typical kid would be.”
OPD is now offering up to a $5,000 reward for information that could help find the person that killed the 15-year-old.
The family also says they are trying to raise $20,000. The money will be used to bury Corey in Connellsville, Pennsylvania, which is where he was raised and several other family members are buried.
