ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — State Sen. Randolph Bracy was supposed to announce several new testing sites coming to the West Orlando area on Saturday as cases are trending downward for the first time in about a month.

What You Need To Know

  • State Sen. Randolph Bracy will make the announcement at the Village Square

  • The new testing sites will be in addition to the four existing in Orange County

Bracy, a Democrat, was expected to announce details about the new West Orlando testing sites at 10 a.m. at the Village Square on Saturday.

However, Bracy had to push back the announcement until Sunday at 2 p.m.

Testing will also be available there seven days a week, starting Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Currently, there are three Orange County Health Services testing sites at: Barnet Park, Econ Soccer Complex, and the South Orange Youth Complex.

The city of Orlando has a testing site at Camping World Stadium.

Last week, the percent positivity rate in Orange County was at about 35%. This past week, the Florida Department of Health says it came down to about 22.5%

Across the state, new case counts for the week of Jan. 14 through 20 hit about 289,000. The week before that appeared to be the peak, at about 430,000 new cases.

Although cases are coming down, experts warn about what may happen in the months to come.

"This pandemic is nowhere near over, and with the incredible growth of Omicron globally, new variants are likely to emerge," said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization.

The death rate also came down in the latest data from the Florida Department of Health.

There were 140 new deaths reported statewide last week.
