TITUSVILLE, Fla. — A Titusville police officer shot and killed a suspect Sunday evening after an altercation stemming from a domestic situation.
The shooting happened just after 7 p.m. Sunday at a home on Gayle Avenue. The officer involved was not seriously injured.
Titusville Police said their officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man was violently assaulting a woman in the roadway.
Investigators said the first officer on the scene spotted a suspect and that man ran from the officer. When authorities confronted him, the man got into an altercation with an officer, authorities said.
That’s when the officer fired at the suspect, killing him.
The officer has been placed on administrative leave.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement responded to the scene and will be investigating the shooting, which is standard procedure for these types of incidents.
At this point the name of the officer who fired the gun or the suspect killed have not been released.
Deputy-involved shooting in Orange County
A separate, deputy-involved shooting also took place earlier Sunday in Orange County.
At 6:10 p.m., officers responded to the 5400 block of Spring Hill Drive in Orange County after a 911 call was received. On the call, a woman could be heard, in distress and screaming for help.
When the deputies arrived on scene, they engaged in a foot pursuit with an armed suspect. During that pursuit, the suspect fired a gun at deputies, and the deputies returned fire, striking the suspect.
The suspect, a man in his late 30s, is in custody and was transported to the hospital in critical condition, according to authorities.
The suspect is in custoday and no deputies were injured.
