Staff members at the location were prepared for the influx of traffic.

The far-right lane that was usually reserved for vaccinations also served as a testing lane for a total of four testing lanes.

Staff still urges people to arrive as soon as possible to avoid getting turned away.

Vaccinations were still offered, but, at least for Sunday, they were moved inside the recreation center.

That's where we caught up with people getting their booster shots because they say the rise of the omicron variant has also given rise to their sense of urgency.

"Well, I'm heading out of town to Kentucky to visit some family, and I hear omicron has really picked up and is spreading pretty fast," Orange County resident Dave Roseford said. "So I wanted to go ahead and make sure I had the best guard against that."

Barnett Park was closed Friday and Saturday for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, so staff members say that's just one reason for Sunday's traffic.

The park's hours for testing are typically 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., but staff said people shouldn't wait until the last minute.

Meanwhile, Econ Soccer Complex is opening up for COVID-19 testing Monday at 9 a.m.
