The release of "Wonder Woman 1984" has been pushed back yet again.
What You Need To Know
- "Wonder Woman 1984" delayed again
- Film will now arrive in theaters on Dec. 25
- Move comes as movie theaters recover from the pandemic
The superhero film, which was scheduled to hit theaters on October 2, will now arrive on December 25, Warner Bros. announced Friday.
The move comes as movie theaters struggle to recover from coronavirus pandemic-related shutdowns.
Warner Bros. earlier this month released its big-budget Christopher Nolan film "Tenet" in North America, but the $200 million film only generated roughly $20 million at the domestic box office. The film did much better internationally, where it’s made over $130 million.
The delay of "Wonder Woman 1984" will give "Tenet" a chance to generate more money as it expands to markets like Los Angeles and New York, where movie theaters have not yet reopened.
Prior to movie theaters shutting down in mid-March, "Wonder Woman 1984" was set for an early June release before Warner Bros. shifted it to August 14 and then October 2.
Directed by Patty Jenkins, "Wonder Woman 1984" is a follow-up to 2017’s "Wonder Woman."
The sequel sees the return of Gal Gadot in the lead role and the addition of newcomers Pedro Pascal (as Maxwell Lord) and Kristen Wiig (as Cheetah).
