Lucien Suprice, 31, is being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail in Daytona Beach with no bond. He was charged with 11 crimes, including child neglect, criminal mischief, fleeing from officers, and felony drug possession, records show.

The baby was unharmed and returned to his unidentified mother, according to a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.

Suprice is on community supervision after serving about four months in a Florida prison in 2016 for four cocaine-possession cases and one controlled substance case. He was sentenced to 18 months.

Deputies spotted the stolen Kia at roughly 3 p.m. Tuesday at Fort Smith and Howland boulevards in Deltona’s east side. They saw it heading north near Maltby and Tunisa drives before it sped through a stop sign, a report said.

Deputies spotted Suprice running away from the Kia at Shafton Avenue. They ran after him.

Suprice broke a white vinyl fence while jumping over it, dropped a bag with cocaine in someone’s backyard and crashed through another fence.

Suprice later fell down and surrendered in the 600 block of Courtland Boulevard.

“After Suprice was placed under arrest, he advised he left his infant baby in the front seat of the vehicle,” his arrest report said. “Deputies immediately placed Suprice inside the patrol vehicle and checked on the vehicle to verify Suprice's claim that he left his baby.”

The baby was alone in the front seat. He was not in a car seat.

“Deputies utilized tools to safely open the car door to check on the baby…” the report said.

Deputies contacted the Florida Department of Children and Families and returned the baby to the mother.

Deputies later found the school-zone sign Sunrise Elementary school on Tunisa Drive damaged by the Kia. The damage estimate for the sign is $5,000.
