VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Registered sex offender Jason Minton faced a Volusia County Judge Tuesday, the second time in a week.

  • Jason Minton has been a registered sex offender since 1998
  • Facing felony battery charges, along with separate rap, kidnapping charges
  • Several women have come forward as alleged victims of Minton

Minton is now facing felony battery charges. In this latest case, a woman came forward telling deputies that she thought she was meeting Minton for job interview. He instead took her to an Orange City bar and bought her drinks.

She told deputies he then drove her to a wooded lot, pulled at her shirt, and offered her money for sex.

“He’s confident that as more information comes out you’ll look at this in a different light/ I think when you see all the facts you’ll take a look at this in a different light,” said Aaron Delgado, Minton's attorney.

Despite being granted a $5,000 granted bond, Minton is staying behind bars.

He is already being held without bond on separate rape and kidnapping charges, related to surveillance video released by the Volusia County Sheriff's Office that they believe shows him dragging an unconscious woman to his car. It was recorded just one day after this latest case reportedly happened.

Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood says the stories of both these women are almost identical and match another case from 2015 where prosecutors gave Minton a plea deal.

“You know plying them with the same liquor, same things that he ordered with our victim from Ormond Beach at River Grille is the same thing that he ordered the night before, is similar to what he did in 2015," Chitwood said.  "So if you sit there and go through the police reports it's almost like connect the dots of the way this guy operates.”

Chitwood announced six more women have come forward with claims against Minton, who’s been a registered sex offender since 1998.

“The guy is an absolute predator. This guy has it down to a science, and he’s been doing this for years and years and years … it’s all just coming to light now,” Chitwood said.

As for Minton’s attorney, he told reporters he is not surprised more accusations are being made.

“There is going to be a lot of people reexamining every interaction they’ve had with Mr. Minton, even ones that seemed harmless at the time are going to be reviewed in a different light," said Delgado.

When asked about this surveillance video being released and the new accusations, Delgado claimed he is worried this could impact a future trial.

“If we want to have six jurors that can fairly try the case, we are going to have to find six jurors that haven’t seen all your coverages, haven't read everything, because a lot of that stuff might not be admissible. So I think that is the major concern that I have and why I don’t like to talk about the actual facts of the case until the case is done," Delgado said.

Meanwhile, Chitwood hopes anyone else who feels they are a victim comes forward.

“We are just scratching the surface of this and who knows where it’s going to end up,” the sheriff said.

Delgado said Minton's wife and child are standing with him through these charges.

Minton will have another bond hearing on Friday.
