  • Suspect tossed receipts and pocked cashed, police say

Greene, 24, was charged on Friday with grand theft, accused of taking money from cash customers at Gypsy Fresh Grill and tossing the receipts in an attempt to hide the transactions, according to New Smyrna Beach police.

Daniel Rainville, the owner of the restaurant at 515 North Dixie Freeway, contacted police on Nov. 11 after finding “missing orders” for nearly $40 worth of food.

“Mr. Rainville advised that he confronted the defendant and she admitted to stealing the $39.45,” the police report said. “She advised him that she had been stealing for approximately two years in the amounts of $300.00 - $400.00 USD per week.”

Rainville filed a complaint and police launched an investigatation. After she was fired, Greene contacted another manager and “admitted that she had been stealing for approximately two years,” her arrest affidavit alleges.

Police interviewed that manager.

Rainville later filed an updated complaint, clarifying that Greene allegedly stole $22,159.

An investigator called Greene on Nov. 28.

“I asked if she would be willing to speak with me regarding the incident. She advised that she was currently on her way to work and would be more than willing to speak with me the following day,” the investigator wrote.

Greene didn’t return the officer’s calls. Officers were unable to track her down. Police obtained a warrant for her arrest on Feb. 21.
