COCOA BEACH, Fla. — In Brevard County, the landscape of downtown Cocoa Beach is changing — in this case, one piece at a time.

  • Work begins on Cocoa Beach parking deck
  • Building will have kiosks, beach showers, restrooms
  • Officials say parking has been issue downtown

Work began this week on the new three-story, 242-space parking deck across from city hall.

An Apopka company is using a large crane to assemble all the pre-fabricated pieces over the next couple of weeks.

The building will have kiosks, beach showers, restrooms, and elevators.

Officials say abundant parking has long been an issue in the downtown area.

"This will facilitate people coming to Cocoa Beach and comfortably being able to park," said Wayne Carragino, the parking deck’s project manager.

The $5 million parking deck was paid for with city redevelopment money and is expected to be complete by Summer 2019.
