A 9-year-old boy is in critical condition after being hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Cleveland and Masters avenues in Wildwood early Tuesday morning.
- Since child met trauma-alert status, boy was airlifted to hospital
- No word on what caused the accident
At about 7:13 a.m., Sumter County Fire & EMS arrived at the scene to find the child 40 feet from the vehicle with severe injuries, stated Battalion Chief Rick Pitts in a news release.
The boy was airlifted to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville because the young patient met trauma-alert status due to the injuries, Pitts said.
The boy was crossing the street at the time of the accident, Fire Chief Leland Greek of the Sumter County Fire & EMS stated to News 13 in an email.
The driver of the Dodge vehicle was not hurt, Greek mentioned.
News 13 is awaiting a reply from the Wildwood Police Department for additional information.
The accident is under the investigation by the Wildwood Police Department.
The original news release said the boy was 7 years old, but he is 9.
