ORLANDO, Fla. — Amateur pottery buffs are increasingly attending classes across Florida on making and painting earthenware and ceramic goods, and some describe the experience as therapeutic and an opportunity to work with their hands.

The Super Awesome Cool Pottery studio in Orlando is a place where everyday people come to make something with nothing more than clay and a paintbrush.

It’s also an art studio where guests can paint with ferrets scurrying around.

Kaitlynn Prather, who has been around pottery since she was a young girl because her family has owned a studio, says the experience is fun and therapeutic.

“I like that people are able to have the stress relief of painting as well as having furry little animals around,” Prather says.

She came up with the idea to bring some fun, humor and a different experience for those learning how to paint pottery. Plus, she has a love for the playful creatures.

“You can tell that just by looking at them that they are very curious," says Prather, who owns five ferrets, most of which were rescued. "One is going one way, the other is going the other way.”

Prather, whose family owns the studio, wanted to combine her love of rescued animals with art.

“Here’s a little ferret tidbit. A group of ferrets is called a 'business of ferrets'," she says.

Emma Comly, who had not spent much time painting pottery before the experience, says the ferrets bring out joy and make her laugh.

“They are just so fun," Comly says. "They are different and all over the place.”

Her friend Kara Orr could not stop laughing while the furry creatures ran around on the table.

“I love them. I can’t believe how curious they are," Orr says. "They are interactive.”

Super Awesome Cool Pottery offers painting with ferrets about every two weeks, along with other ceramics and pottery classes.
