The back-to-school drive-thru distribution event in Kissimmee is meant to close the gap for families in transition.

The Salvation Army and Florida Technical College along with the help of some other agencies (like Walmart, Staples and Embrace of Celebration) will be distributing 1,000 backpacks over the weekend in a drive-thru-style event.

“The supplies are going to be even more important. It’s very important for health and sanitation reasons that each student has their own items so they don't have to share,” said Dr. Mike Burkett, the President for Florida Technical College.

Osceola County Commissioner Peggy Choudhry said, “To the kids of Osceola County who are in desperate need of this: We’re going to help parents this way and now is the time to do it. With COVID-19 happening, now is the best time to help and assist our students of Osceola County.

The event will be happening on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Students must be present, and it will be on a first come, first serve basis at the Salvation Army Osceola Christian Ministry Center, located at 700 Union Street in Kissimmee.
