The white female gator is named Mystic, while her darker-skinned brother has been given the name Mayhem, Gatorland announced in a video on Friday.
In December, the park shared news of the baby gators and asked the public to help name them. Gatorland received hundreds of suggestions, according to CEO Mark McHugh.
Mystic is one of eight leucistic gators in the world, but she’s the first one to be born in human care. She and her brother Mayhem are the offspring of Jeyan, a leucistic gator, and Ashley, a gator with normal coloration.
Leucistic gators are characterized by their white skin and blue eyes, but their skin usually has some splotches of dark coloration. Because of their their pigmentation, leucistic gators are sensitive to sunlight. They differ from albino gators which have no pigmentation and pink eyes.
Gatorland is building a special exhibit for Mystic and Mayhem in White Gator Swamp area of the park. McHugh said it should be open by spring.
