LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — June is the month when many celebrate Pride. And just like years before, Disney World is marking the occasion with photo walls, special merchandise, treats and more.

The themed photo walls have been added to all four theme parks — Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Each backdrop features the rainbow colors and the word “love.”

One of the new photo backdrops available this year is a mural near the entrance to the Connections Cafe at EPCOT. The mural depicts the outside of Spaceship Earth with rainbow colors above it and the word “Love” in the center.

At Disney Springs, there are two Pride-themed displays, including one with Mickey Mouse’s gloves forming a rainbow-colored heart. Banners that say “Share your Pride at Disney Springs” have also been installed at the complex.

Disney has also rolled out its Pride Collection of merchandise in stores across the resort. The collection, created by members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community, includes apparel, accessories, pins and more. The Pride Collection is also available at Disneyland Resort and online at shopDisney.

"At Disney Parks, we want our guests and cast members to see themselves reflected in the Disney stories, experiences, and products they know and love — all year long — and we are grateful to work with members and allies of the community to deliver products that are authentic," wrote Lisa Becket, senior vice president of global marketing, in a post on the official Disney Parks Blog. 

Specialty treats like cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, cookies and drinks are available for a limited time at select restaurants and stands in the parks and at the resort hotels. A few of the items also feature the colors of the transgender flag.

Disney celebrating Pride Month is nothing new. However, the past couple of years have put an extra spotlight on the company and its support of LGBTQ+ causes.

The company has been involved in an ongoing feud with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis since 2022, after Disney publicly opposed the state’s Parental Rights in Education legislation. The measure, referred to by critics as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, restricts discussions on gender identity and sexual orientation in public school classrooms.

DeSantis responded by signing legislation to give the state control of Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District and appointing a new board of supervisors for the district. The new organization is named the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District.

In April, after the DeSantis-appointed board voted to void development agreements Disney made with the previous Reedy Creek board, Disney sued DeSantis, the board and other officials, accusing them of a “targeted campaign of government retaliation.”

Disney CEO Bob Iger addressed the situation last month during the company's quarterly earnings call, pushing back on the idea that DeSantis' actions were about special privileges.

"This is about one thing and one thing only, and that's retaliating against us for taking a position about pending legislation," Iger said.
