“TRON Lightcycle Run is not just a new attraction,” Magic Kingdom vice president Melissa Valiquette said to the crowd. “This 10-acre expansion of Tomorrowland is a whole new computerized frontier to explore, and another amazing opportunity to discover the thrills Walt Disney World has to offer.”
The high-speed thrill ride is one of Disney’s fastest coasters. The attraction, a replica of the TRON ride found at Shanghai Disneyland, features indoor and outdoor elements. Inspired by the TRON films, the attraction takes visitors through a digital world on a race against Team Orange.
The arrival of TRON marks the completion of a project that was first announced back in 2017. During the ceremony Monday, Valiquette thanked cast members for all their hard work and contributions.
“I want to be sure to thank all of our cast today, whether you work right here in Tomorrowland or whether you have worked to support the opening of this fantastic attraction—thank you,” she said. “You are the key to unlocking this achievement.”
Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse also stopped by for the festivities.
TRON opens to the public Tuesday after several weeks of previews for cast members, passholders and other guests. The attraction just wrapped a soft-opening period.
When it opens, visitors can access TRON through the virtual queue or by purchasing an individual Lightining Lane. Both open are available in the My Disney Experience app.
