ORLANDO, Fla. — A new attraction offering everything from axe-throwing to adventure rooms will soon open at ICON Park.

What You Need To Know

  • Max Action Arena set to open at ICON Park

  • The entertaiment center will feature ax-throwing, adventure rooms and a VR experience

  • It's a family-friendly attraction but aims to offer something for adults

Max Action Arena, an 8,000 square foot entertainment entertainment center, comes from the same team behind the In the Game arcade at ICON Park.

For this new concept, the team wanted to create a space that appealed to an older demographic. Children are certainly welcome — Max Action Arena is family-friendly — but the attraction is more focused on adults.

“You can have a drink with your friends,” said Scott Brown, director of marketing for Max Action Arena. “You can throw axes and do cool VR stuff, and hang out, and compete and interact. But again, still family-friendly, but definitely has a vibe for adults and people who want to have a fun night out.”

One of the activities Max Action Arena offers is axe throwing, which will offer different types of targets and games — from darts to tic-tac-toe. The games are projected on the wall in the throwing area.

The attraction will also offer something different with its adventure rooms. Think of them as a cross between an escape room and a video game. Visitors can enter one of several rooms and try to solve puzzle under a time limit. They are not given any information before they go in. If they fail, the game ends and they have to restart. They have until the clock runs out to get it right.

Each of the rooms has a different theme and props. There’s a medieval room and one with a space theme. Another room features a futuristic alien theme. Up to six players can be in a room at a time.

Other attractions at Max Action Arena include Off the Wall, a wall filled with QR codes that open puzzles, trivia and other challenges; a space-themed escape room, and a zero latency virtual reality experience, which is expected to be one of the more popular offerings at the entertainment center. Visitors can freely roam the arena as they battle or explore different virtual worlds.

An exact opening date has not yet been set, but the plan is to open soon.
