ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – Since Disney World reopened its theme parks in July, some construction projects around the resort have resumed.

One project, the reimagining of Epcot’s entrance, took another step forward this week with the installation of prism pylons.

Anyone who has visited the park in recent days may have seen the pylons peeking up from behind a set of construction walls near Spaceship Earth. The pylons, which feature the vintage Epcot logo, are just one part of the revamped main entrance fountain.

Walt Disney Imagineer Zach Riddley, who is currently leading work Epcot’s overhaul, shared behind-the-scenes video of the pylon installation as well as more details about the pylons.

“Today I’m proud to share this behind-the-scenes video capturing the installation process as it happened,” Riddley wrote in a caption on his Instagram page. “These three acrylic pylons, each standing over 16 feet tall and weighing more than 4,000 pounds, were digitally modeled then milled and polished using state-of-the-art technology to achieve this perfect finish and amazing reflection effect.”

The completed project, which includes the fountain, is set to be revealed later this year, according to Riddley.

Prior to the coronavirus-related shutdown, Epcot was undergoing a massive transformation, with plans that included new restaurants, new attractions and new pavilions. While the transformation is still underway, some projects have been paused for the time being, including the Spaceship Earth refurbishment and the Mary Poppins attraction that was set for the U.K. pavilion.
