ORLANDO, Fla. — Disney CEO Bob Iger recently revealed when Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge will open at Disneyland in California.
- Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge to open at Disneyland in June
- Disney CEO Bob Iger revealed the tidbit during a recent interview
- New land will feature two attractions, marketplace, cantina
In an interview with Barron's, Iger answered questions on a variety of topics, including Disney's upcoming streaming service, box office numbers and the recent Fox acquisition.
But it was during a question about increasing parks attendance that Iger let slip the Star Wars opening date, or rather, month.
"When Star Wars opens in Anaheim in June and in Florida later this year, that's adding capacity," Iger said. "You're adding 14 acres of land (each), more rides, and more things for people to do. It's the biggest land we've ever built."
Up until now, Disney has only officially said that the Anaheim-version Galaxy's Edge would open "summer 2019." A similar version of the land is scheduled to open at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Florida in "late fall."
Story-wise, Galaxy's Edge will be set in Black Spire Outpost on the planet of Batuu. The land will include two attractions--Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Visitors also will be able to buy goods at an interactive marketplace and grab a drink or two at Oga's Cantina.
