The National Weather Association held its annual meeting in Pittsburgh, PA this week. Hundreds of meteorologists gathered to share studies on the latest technology in the weather industry, ideas on how to improve forecasting, and to network with fellow weather enthusiasts from around the nation. During their award luncheon, the NWA awarded Spectrum News 13’s team of meteorologists with the NWA Public Education award.
What You Need To Know
- Spectrum News 13 won NWA Public Education award
- We also honored with the Dick Fletcher Media Award at the Governor’s Hurricane Conference
- A new meteorologist joins the team in October
Although awards are an outstanding achievement, there’s a deeper meaning behind them. For the Spectrum News 13 weather team, it shows how past education and continuing education go into public education and the spreading of weather awareness.
In May, the team earned the Dick Fletcher Media Award at the Governor’s Hurricane Conference for “outstanding support to the emergency management community and tireless efforts in educating local schools, businesses, first responders, and the public not only in hurricane preparedness and response but also tornado and flooding awareness in central Florida.”
It's important to find a weather team you trust and who has the proper education to keep you informed when the weather gains an attitude and becomes dangerous. Not only will you find that in the Spectrum News 13 Weather Experts, but we take you through storms with our no-hype approach calmly walking through what is already a stressful situation to make sure you're safe.
This is our commitment to you, to use our past education and continuing education to inform and educate the central Florida public. By the way, we want to wish our colleague David Heckard the best in his new position as Assistant Chief Meteorologist for News4 JAX in Jacksonville, FL. Join us as we welcome a new Meteorologist to our Orlando team in October!
