CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Citadel has a new Director of Athletics. University President Glenn Walters made the official announcement on Wednesday that Art Chase will be leading Bulldog athletics.
Chase has spent the previous 25 years at Duke University in multiple roles. Most recently, he was the Senior Associate Director of Athletics for External Affairs.
"I am excited that Art Chase is returning to The Citadel to lead our athletic teams after 25 years at Duke University," Walters said. "He is exceptionally qualified, familiar with our mission and prepared to make all our programs and athletes successful."
Chase also has previous connections with The Citadel. He spent two separate stints in the Sports Information office in the 90's and 2000's. Sandwiched between that was a stop at Presbyterian College in Clinton.
These roles eventually led him to a successful career in athletics at Duke. Following a national search, Chase is excited to be back at the place where his career started.
"Kaye and I are both honored and humbled to return to The Citadel, and we are grateful to General Walters for the opportunity to serve an elite group of cadet-student-athletes, coaches and staff," Chase said. "Additionally, we are deeply appreciative of Richard Johnson, Bill Sansom and the entire search committee for their support and trust, as representing The Citadel is truly a tremendous privilege. Our commitment is to help achieve the institutional goal of developing principled leaders while placing a priority on the cadet-student-athlete experience in this challenging and evolving era of college athletics. We look forward to engaging with the many internal and external stakeholders who make The Citadel such a special place."
