PALM COAST, Fla. — Flagler Palm Coast's Teagan Paulo has one of the best right legs in the state.
This is the junior’s first year of playing football, in the American sense.
He says scoring his first points in a game was nerve wrecking.
“My first field goal was against Lake Howell,” Paulo explains. “It was a line drive right above the upright. Just got it through. But to make my first kick was a good feeling. A lot of practice for that.”
Kicking comes naturally to Teagan.
He’s a complete football player, whether that’s on the gridiron or in the net.
“I love the feeling of making a save. I used to play in the field, but my dad was a goalie so I kind of followed after him,” said Paulo.
Paulo says he’s much better goalie than kicker.
It’s hard to argue with him. Teagan made 154 saves last season and made the Florida High Coaches Association 7A All-State soccer team.
This past summer, he racked up some frequent flyer miles too.
“I had nationals for Orlando City. Then within a week, I’m going out to London and Sweden to play on trials and tournaments over there then to come back to play football,” said Paulo. “It was really a lot of work this summer to get to where I am right now. I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.”
The grind doesn’t stop there.
This past month, during the Bulldogs’ playoff run on the football field, Teagan was still making saves on the soccer pitch.
Balancing both sports is something he couldn’t do alone.
“I’m grateful that my coaches are allowing this to work out,” Paulo said. “I know a lot of players don’t get the chance to play both. Especially when they’re right on top of each other like this. So very grateful to coach [Daniel] Fish and [Ramtin] Amiri to let this work out.”
