PARIS — Orlando boxer Omari Jones won a bronze medal at the Olympics on Tuesday, even though he didn't win his bout.

Jones, 21, narrowly lost his fight in the semifinals of the 71-kilogram weight class to Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev of Uzbekistan with a 3-2 split decision at Roland Garros Stadium.

He was the only boxer among the eight Americans competing in the sport to bring home a medal. All the boxers who advanced to the semifinals received a medal.

Jones trailed in the judges' scores 3-1 heading into the third round and won that round 4-1. But according to USA Boxing, Jones "needed a knockout or a 10-8 score from one of the judges to sway the decision in his favor."

The Edgewater High School alumnus, who had split his time between Orlando and Colorado Springs, Colo., while training for the Olympics, had dominated his first two fights in France. He defeated Kan Chia Wei of Taiwan 5-0 in the round of 16 on July 31 and shut out Bulgaria's Rami Mofid Kiwan 5-0 in the quarterfinals on Aug. 3.
