CLERMONT, Fla — East Ridge High School’s Alex Remaklus is one of the best high school golfers in Central Florida, despite only getting into the sport five years ago. But it was love for another hobby that helped her get into the golf unexpectedly.

What You Need To Know

  • Her love of golf came from an unexpected place

  • The high schooler has won districts and regionals in golf

  • She also has a passion for muscle cars

“We were at a car show and they had this inflatable gator you chipped into and I always liked trying new things, so I tried it,” said Remaklus. “I was really good at it and they told me to stop because I won all their prizes, so I wanted to get good at it and stuck with it ever since.”

Remaklus played many sports growing up, but golf is what she focuses on now. Her family moved from Colorado to Florida two years ago so she can play year round. She found a lot of success on the course last season at East Ridge High School.

“I won districts and regionals and I got 15th in states I believe,” she said. “It was a good season, definitely better than my first season, so I can’t wait to what the next season looks like.”

Remaklus is putting herself in a good position to improve on last year. In June, she was part of a winning tandem that won the Florida State Golf Association’s Women’s four-ball championship.

“It felt great for me and my partner. It was our first win,” said Remaklus. “It was like a taste of victory for all the hard work we have been putting in, just makes me want to keep going.”

But her other hobby is something she shares with her dad.

“Recently just went to a car show,” she said. “There are a bunch of a lot of muscle cars, definitely some Ferraris.”

And when asked what is her dream car, her response …

“I would say I want a Ferrari F40, Porsche GT3 RS, and I want a McLaren, probably a 720,” said Remaklus.

But she wasn’t done

“I probably want a ‘66 Mustang. I want a Dodge Challenger. I don’t care which year,” she said. “I want a lot of cars when I’m older.”

But the biggest thing she gets out for the love of cars is how it brought her closer with her dad.

“It built such a great relationship to me and my dad,” said Remaklus. “We came so close so quick with that so I wouldn’t want anything different.”
