Marta also scored a pair of goals for the Pride (9-0-5), who sit atop the league standings with 32 points. The Pride and the Kansas City Current (8-0-5) are the only two teams without a loss this season.
With the win, the Pride extended their unbeaten streak to 14 games to start the year and 15 dating to last season.
“I think the most important [factor] for this team is the mentality we create from the beginning of this season,” Marta said. “We decided to work hard to win the game and win one after the other. Not just win one game and not show out for the other. We try to find a balance and keep that for every game, especially for home games. In the past and to now, the results at home needed to be three points. Nobody’s allowed to come here and have fun besides us.”
Banda’s ninth goal of the season in the 27th minute matched Portland’s Sophia Smith for the league lead. It was her fifth goal off a header. Banda passed Smith with another goal in the 86th minute, for her fourth brace of the season. She is the first NWSL player to score 10 goals in her first 10 games.
Summer Yates put the Pride up 2-0 with a goal in first-half stoppage time.
Marta scored her first two minutes into the second half.
Marta added her second in the 88th minute off a pass from Banda, and they celebrated with a dance. Marta's brace extended her lead for most goals in club history with 35.
Ally Watt added a final Orlando goal in stoppage time.
The six goals by the Pride were the most scored in a single game by the club and also marked the largest margin of victory in team history.
“We had a good chat after the North Carolina game because we left the game feeling disappointed that we weren’t able to score the goals we created,” Coach Seb Hines said. “You could see tonight there was a real passion, a real hunger to put the ball in the back of the net; there were some really good goals tonight.”
Banda also had two assists on the night, becoming just the second player in club history alongside Marta to post two goals and two assists in the same match.
“With our team, the most important thing is confidence,” Banda said. “Everyone has confidence, and the message was that we have to dominate the game, we have to keep calm, keep the ball, keep on moving so that we can find some chances.”
Goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse made four saves, and the Pride notched their sixth clean sheet of the season.
The expansion Royals, at the bottom of the standings, fell to 2-11-1.
The attendance of 9,656 attendance marked the highest of the year for the Pride and their third-highest in club history.
The Pride's next game is at 7:30 p.m. June 30 at Angel City (4-3-6) in Los Angeles.
