NATIONWIDE — An Alabama company recalled tons of hot sausages because they may be contaminated with bits of metal.

The United States Department of Agriculture's recall notice stated it has not had any reports of injury from the R.L. Zeigler Company sausages.
"The problem was discovered after the firm received consumer complaints on Dec. 13 and 27, 2018. The firm investigated to determine the nature of the complaints and notified FSIS (the Food Safety and Inspection Service) on Dec. 29, 2018," stated the USDA in a news release dated Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018.
The recall affects nearly 6 tons of chicken and pork sausage labeled as "Red Hots." Some of them were also labeled "Extra Hot."
- 24-oz. plastic packages containing approximately 9 links of "ZEIGLER A TRADITION OF GREAT TASTE RED HOTS" with a "Use By Jan 24 19" date.
- 24-oz. plastic packages containing approximately 9 links of "EXTRA HOT ZEIGLER A TRADITION OF GREAT TASTE RED HOTS" with a "Use By Jan 24 19" date.
They were shipped nationwide.
