Two police officers from the Bronx’s 50th Precinct have been suspended amid an investigation into a police chase that turned deadly, sources told NY1.

The incident began Wednesday morning after police officers from the 50th Precinct in the Bronx chased the vehicle to the 34th Precinct in Upper Manhattan, according to sources.

The driver then got off on Dyckman Street in Manhattan and crashed into a building, which caused the car to catch fire, the NYPD said.

The FDNY responded and put the fire out, police said. EMS pronounced the driver dead at the scene, according to police.

Sources said the officers fled the scene after the crash, did not attempt to help the driver and went back to the 50th Precinct without reporting the incident.

The NYPD confirmed that the two officers were suspended pending review of the incident.

This incident follows changes to the NYPD's vehicle pursuit policy.

In January, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch limited pursuits to only serious and violent crimes.

It’s unclear if the vehicle being stolen was the sole reason for the pursuit.

The state attorney general’s office is also investigating the incident.

In a statement, Police Benevolent Association president Patrick Hendry said the officers “were on patrol, attempting to address chronic crime conditions in their precinct.”

“This incident is under investigation, and that investigation must be completed without any rush to judgement,” Hendry added.
