ORLANDO, Fla. — There are three Democratic candidates hoping to win the opportunity to unseat current Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody during the general election in November.

Aramis Ayala, Jim Lewis and Daniel Uhlfelder are all on the ballot hoping to advance past Tuesday's primary election, and ultimately become Florida's next Attorney General.

Former Orange and Osceola County State Attorney Aramis Ayala says she is big on public safety, and growing Florida’s economy and constitutional protections, among other things.

“It’s all about our constitutional rights — we want to be free, we want to be heard and we want to exist, and there are laws in the foundation of our Constitution that gives us access to that freedom, and the Attorney General is the one who is supposed to stand up and speak for the people and ensure that we are free and to speak,” Ayala said.

Fort Lauderdale criminal defense attorney Jim Lewis says he is looking to legalize marijuana for at-home use, protect women’s rights and tackle corruption.

“I want to look at serious political corruption so that people that get elected do their jobs, which is to do the will of the people and not just the will of the big corporations," he said. "... I’m very concerned about our environment and climate change — we don’t seem to be doing anything, and if we don’t start working on that pretty soon, pushing back on special interest that don’t care, then we are going to start losing are coastlines.”

Finally, there is Attorney Daniel Uhlfelder also known as the Grim Reaper, who has criticized Gov. Ron DeSantis’ handling of the coronavirus Pandemic. Uhlfeder says he wants to be an advocate for the people.   

“I’m going to take on Florida Power and Light, and utilities that are jacking up your rates," he said. "We are going to take on the homeowner insurance companies that are raising rates unfairly … we are going to take on companies that are unfairly jacking up your rental rates and we are going to protect reproductive rights.”
