APOPKA, Fla. – Some kids are getting to design their own school.
Dream Lake Elementary is partnering up with Dix.Hite + Partners, Inc., a landscape architecture firm to improve their campus holistically. This is one of 25 projects for the 25th anniversary of Dix.Hite.
Dix.Hite is helping students draft vision plans to beautify the campus and create things like a raised flower bed garden and an outdoor stage.
Jessica Griggs is a partner and principal for Dix.Hite and the leader on this project. Griggs said the goal is to immerse children in a hands-on learning environment. “Honestly, they can do anything they put their minds to. In landscape architecture, we get to be creative, we do a little bit of drawing, a little bit of design. We’re working on ecology,” Griggs added. “We’re working with math and numbers and grading. We’re working with engineers. So I want the kids to know that everything they're learning today can be applied to anything they want to do.”
Dream Lake is currently fundraising to help make this project come to life. They’re in need of materials and services. If you’d like to donate, click here.
