Engineers, scientists and like-minded people who love to build stuff are gathering to show off their skills. A decade-old festival meant to inspire is happening this weekend.
1. Maker Faire is a gathering of curious people. Allison Chase — a cosplayer — is one of them. “When you make something, you have a physical representation of your work,” she said. “It is something you can physically look at, hold and show other people.”
2. Chase will be displaying her Catbus cosplay at Maker Faire 2022. Catbus is a character from a Japanese anime. “I don’t really pick my cosplays — they kinda just pick me," she said.
3. Maker Faire will have lots of robots and such, but Chase says it’s more than a “science fair.” “It shows the perfect blend between STEM and art,” she said. “You’re either a science nerd or you’re an art nerd. But, in the maker community, you take both of those and make something awesome.”
4. From tech enthusiasts to crafters, to homesteaders to scientists to garage tinkerers, Maker Faire is where novices and experts of all ages come together to show what they’ve made and share what they’ve learned.
5. Maker Faire is this weekend, Nov. 5-6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Central Florida Fairgrounds. Tickets (at the door) start at $20.
