MILWAUKEE — Another Wisconsin chef is swimming onto streaming screens this spring.
Jason Morimoto, the executive chef at Screaming Tuna’s Mequon location and former executive chef at the locale’s Milwaukee location, will compete on season two of Chef Masaharu Morimoto’s “Morimoto’s Sushi Master.”
Masaharu Morimoto, who has been on both the American and Japanese versions of “Iron Chef,” is bringing back his competition series to Roku. “Sushi Master” is the world’s first exclusively-sushi competition show.
“Without a doubt, my biggest inspiration in life has been Iron Chef Morimoto,” Jason Morimoto said in a social media post. “I felt like I could relate to what he was doing. It drove me to want to be just like him and it’s allowed me to do what I do everyday with respect and love.”
Jason Morimoto, who has worked at Screaming Tuna for about 14 years, will compete alongside seven other sushi chefs in the six-episode season.
In each episode, the cheftestants compete in challenges that “test their fundamental sushi skills, creativity and out-of-the-box thinking.” Each cheftestant will aim to evade elimination in order to make it through to the next round. Ultimately, one chef will be crowned Morimoto’s Sushi Master, which comes with a cash prize of $25,000.
Masaharu Morimoto and Phillip Frankland, a Michelin star chef and "Top Chef" alumnus, will serve as judges this season.
Season two of the show premieres on April 25. The entire season will be available on the Roku Channel that day.
Screaming Tuna said it will be holding watch parties to cheer on its executive chef once the season drops.
