Oliver Robinson will retire as superintendent of Shenendehowa schools at the end of the school year after serving in the position for 20 years, he announced Monday morning in a statement.

Born in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, Robinson moved to south Florida at age 7 before graduating from Brown University and the state University at Albany and becoming a school administrator at one of the Capital Region's largest school districts, serving more than 9,000 students in southern Saratoga County.

“For the past two decades, it has been a privilege to lead Shenendehowa and serve this incredible community,” Robinson said. “Together, we’ve built a district known for excellence in academics, the arts, and athletics. I’ll always cherish the relationships I’ve formed and the shared commitment to helping students succeed.”

Petra Holden, president of the Shenendehowa school board, credited Robinson for guiding the district and keeping students at the center of his decisions.

Holden said the board will meet soon to discuss the search for a new superintendent. The board's next meeting is April 8.

Robinson, who had served as superintendent of the Rotterdam-Mohonasen Central School District before Shen, will retire on June 30.
