CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Reds will recognize members of an Ohio Department of Transportation team that made a major difference in the community.
On Tuesday, ODOT Project Manager Chris Tuminello, who helped restore the Daniel Carter Beard Bridge and get the southbound I-471 approach back up and running for commuters, will throw the ceremonial first pitch.
“Since there was no formal ribbon cutting ceremony or community celebration to mark reopening the highway, this will give the community the chance to thank these crews - and enjoy a great ballgame!” ODOT said in a news release.
The bridge closed last November after a fire was set by four people, closing the bridge for several hours. After the fire was extinguished, the northbound lanes reopened, but ODOT said the southbound lanes would remain closed to repair a 70-foot section of the I-471 northbound wall after demolition.
The Reds invited friends and family members alongside the entire ODOT project team to the game. ODOT workers had to purchase tickets.
Cincinnati will face the Texas Rangers at 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1.
