SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — Interstate 75 and the County Road 475 overpass in Sumter County have reopened after being temporarily closed Monday because a bridge was hit earlier in the day, the Florida Department of Transportation announced.
The Florida Turnpike northbound in the area near I-75 has also reopened.
The bridge was damaged early Monday when a dump truck driven by a 56-year-old Ocala man struck it, according to a statement from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. The truck's dump bed was inadvertently left in a raised position as the truck passed under the CR-475 overpass, a FLHSMV spokesman said. The bed sheared off and became lodged under the overpass while the truck itself continued until it stopped just north of the impact point. No injuries were reported by the driver.
FDOT engineers inspected the highway and bridge and cleared it for use.
