PORT ORANGE, Fla. — It’s a great day to be a Hawk! Spruce Creek High School’s Jeremy Davies is this week’s A+ Teacher.

Davies teaches IB Math Analysis and Approaches at his alma mater in Port Orange. He also coaches the Spruce Creek tennis team.

Teaching wasn’t his first choice, but it ended up being the right choice for him, now coming full circle to the high school in which he grew up.

“You know, I had a past experience in business management, but working with kids and colleagues and building a culture teaching math is what I truly wanted to do,” he said. “It’s cool to come home to Spruce Creek High School. I attended here as a student so it’s a very cool place to be, and I also coach tennis and I play tennis, so it came full circle. It’s really neat for me.”

Relating to his students, he encourages his students to have balance in their studies and activities.

“I have some of the smartest kids in school, but making sure they emphasize being a part of something else, like being part of a club or sport,” he said. “I remember what it’s like for them, so I just want to be that positive role model for them and just make this as memorable an experience for them as possible before they embark on the next journey and go off to college and choose whatever path they want to pick in life.”
