PORT ORANGE, Fla. — The city of Port Orange posted on Facebook Wednesday morning that a prescribed burn is taking place today.
The city said crews will conduct a 175-acre controlled burn west of Interstate 95. Residents may see smoke in the area throughout the day.
The city said burns are vital to forest management efforts, which help:
- Promote new plant growth
- Remove invasive species
- Reduce wildfires risks by clearing dry, flammable materials

Brevard County Emergency Management is also conducting a 1168-prescribed burn on Wednesday, west of I-95 near the Brevard/Indian River County border.
