BRADENTON, Fla. — The Bradenton Police Department is increasing the reward for anyone who might have information on a shooting that killed a woman earlier in November.
Yolanda Baxcajay-Flores was shot while sitting in her car on Nov. 12.
A mother, a daughter and someone who always put God first — that’s how Joanna Rodriguez-Baxcajay described her mom, Yolanda.
“She was just a fearless woman, where every obstacle put in her way she would always persevere,” said Rodriguez-Baxcajay.
At their home in Bradenton, Rodriguez-Baxcajay said they’ve held a rosary every night since her passing as the wait for answers continues.
“We want to keep spreading the word to find who did this. So sudden and so young, and she had yet still so much life in her," she said.
The Bradenton Police Department is investigating two shootings that happened on Nov. 12. The first shooting damaged cars and homes, and the second took place shortly after in the 2100 block of 15th Avenue East.
Police said more than 30 rounds were fired and one hit and killed Rodriguez-Baxcajay’s mom.
She was sitting in her car after arriving home from grocery shopping when it happened.
“I just urge you to please say something, because if this was your mother, I know you’d want to find who did this,” said Rodriguez-Baxcajay.
Police are working to determine if there’s a link between the shootings. They said evidence gathered from the second scene indicates at least two shooters were involved.
They’ve also increased police presence in the area during the late afternoon and evening hours. Rodriguez-Baxcajay says it’s been a difficult few days, but she’s staying strong and hoping to keep her mother’s memory alive.
“She left a footprint here — really big — and made such a big impact, so I’m just looking for everyone’s help,” she said.
Surrounded by family, Rodriguez-Baxcajay said she’s hopeful someone will come forward with information that will lead to an arrest and that they’ll get a resolution soon.
The funeral service is being held on Saturday, Nov. 23.
Anyone with any information on the case is encouraged to contact Detective Brian Sands and has the option to remain anonymous.
