ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando Science Center will try to set a Guinness World Record for the most people flying paper rockets simultaneously on Saturday in the Dr. Phillips CineDome.
What You Need To Know
- Orlando Science Center will attempt a Guinness World Record for flying paper rockets
- The bid will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Dr. Phillips CineDome
- Visitors to the science center who are at least 8 years old can take part
- However, seating capacity is limited so those interested should arrive by 10 a.m.
At least 250 people will be required for the attempt, and up to 300 visitors to the science center who are at least 8 years old can take part.
Each participant will be given one pre-made paper rocket, and at least two independent witnesses will count the number of people holding one paper rocket right before the attempt starts. Three attempts are allowed for a successful flight. At the start signal, participants must fly their paper rockets.
They will have 15 seconds to do so. Another signal will sound after exactly 15 seconds to confirm the time allowed to fly the paper rockets is over. A rocket must fly upward or horizontally to be considered successful, and any attempts that do not do so within the 15-second period will not be included in the total. An official judge from Guinness World Records will be on hand to verify the world record.
Visitors who want to help set the record should arrive by 10 a.m. because seating in the CineDome is limited. Admission to the CineDome is on a first-come, first-served basis, and one ticket per person will be distributed until maximum capacity is reached. All participants must be present to receive a ticket.
The record attempt, which is being held in conjunction with the Science of Guinness World Records exhibition at the science center until Jan. 6, 2025, will not take place until 1 p.m., and confirmed participants will be admitted to the Cinedome beginning at 12:30 p.m. They can explore the science center until it's time to prepare to set the record.
Tickets can be purchased online for admission at www.osc.org.
Saturday and Sunday also will be Sci Fi Weekend at the science center. Special guests and activities will help visitors learn about the science behind favorite science fiction and fantasy tales. All visitors will have access, regardless of whether they take part in the Guinness World Record attempt on Saturday.
