ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The 2024 election is shaping up to be groundbreaking, with millions of voters across Florida preparing to cast their ballots.
This week, Orange County residents will have more options than ever to participate in early voting, thanks to the addition of two new early voting sites, a move intended to improve access for underserved communities.
Orange County Supervisor of Elections Glen Gilzean announced that new early voting locations have been added in the town of Eatonville and the West Lakes neighborhood, just south of Camping World Stadium in Orlando. Gilzean emphasized the importance of providing convenient voting options to residents, particularly in areas historically known as “voting deserts.”
“We’re really excited about these new sites because they address longstanding concerns about access in certain communities,” said Gilzean. “A group of community leaders came forward and urged us to find a solution, and we were able to make it happen.”
The early voting site in Eatonville carries special significance. As the town celebrates its 137th anniversary, this marks the first time it will host an early voting site.
“This is a historic opportunity,” said Gilzean. “What I’ve heard from the community is that they’re excited to cast their ballots in their own town for the very first time.”
Voters in Orange County will have three options to cast their ballots in the upcoming election: in person on Election Day, by mail or through early voting. Early voting will run for 14 days, starting on Monday and continuing through Nov. 3. Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Both Osceola and Seminole counties have early voting until Nov 3. And Sumter County's early voting starts on Tuesday, Oct. 22.
