ORLANDO, Fla. — While much of the state was taking shelter as Hurricane Milton made landfall and started its trek across Florida, dozens of expectant mothers found themselves in a completely different situation.

According to AdventHealth, 67 babies were born while torrential rain and high winds from Milton were outside buffeting many of its hospitals.

Of those, 32 were born in Tampa-area AdventHealth hospitals; 11 were born in Orlando; 14 in Celebration; two in Winter Park; one in Altamonte Springs; four in Tavares; one in Daytona Beach; and two in Orange City.

"Hundreds of team members, inlucding nurses physicians and specialists, staffed AdventHealth facilities during the height of the hurricane, working through the night to ensure that the community, including delivering parents and their little ones, were safely cared for," AdventHealth said in a statement.
