A man ran over a police officer along Highway 74 during a chase Friday morning before shooting himself, according to Monroe police.
It happened Friday morning near Secrest Avenue in Monroe. "The pursuit ended in Marshville where the suspect shot himself," police said.
The suspect, Jamil Hall, 29 of Lilesville, was airlifted to a hospital in Charlotte, where he remained Friday night in critical condition, police said. The officer suffered injuries to his leg but is expected to fully recover.
Officials closed U.S. 74 in Marshvlle on Friday.
