Bill Shaw was a traveling salesman back in the day. He sold batteries for the space shuttle and space station.

But in his retirement, it seems he’s on the go even more.

“We’re helpers,” Shaw says. “If it’s edible, usable, or wearable, we’ll take it.”

Shaw and his wife Lynda live in the Great Outdoors, a retirement community in Titusville. Inside, two bins sit where residents can drop donations.

“This has been here 10 to 12 years, collecting food,” he says, pointing to the corner by the door.

And once this latest haul is loaded up, it’s back on the road.

“Before you throw good clothes or edible food away, give it to me. Because I’d rather see it go on somebody’s back, or in someone’s stomach, then in a landfill,” Shaw explains.

Several times a week they check on Elizabeth Todd, who is homeless. They bring her snacks, water and dog food for her puppy.

The Shaws have known her for years.

“How do I feel about them? There’s no feel, they are just my dearest ones,” Todd tells us.

She’s just one of the countless people the Shaws help in the Titusville area.

And they will keep ongoing as long as they can. They believe their work comes from a higher power.

“It’s what Jesus said to do,” Shaw said.
