LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The city of Mount Dora on Friday afternoon lifted the boil water alert issued earlier this week for residents inside and outside the city limits that are customers of City water.

"Lab results have confirmed that no contaminants were found in our water supply, and it is safe for all normal use," the city announced in a statement on its website.

The boil water notice occurred Tuesday after an independent contractor working on a development struck a water main with excavation equipment, according to a press release. Crews responded quickly and restored water to nearly all customers by 11 p.m., Tuesday, but there was a risk that contaminants like bacteria, viruses, or other harmful substances could enter the water supply through cracks or backflow, especially as crews flushed the water system.

For that reason, the city conducted multiple days of testing to ensure there were no contaminants in the water.

To try to prevent similar disruptions in the future, the city stated in its announcement that it is connecting the affected water main to other underground utilities being placed throughout nearby developments. The connection will act as a "fault switch" or backup system, the city's announcement stated.
