LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The sole surviving suspect in the ambush attack on three Lake County sheriff's deputies is now indicted on multiple charges.
Julie Sulpizio is charged with first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer, attempted first degree murder of a law enforcement officer and conspiracy to commit murder, and battery.
According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Sulpizio allegedly lured three sheriff's deputies into her home where authorities say that Sulpizio's husband and two daughters opened fire. Later, it was discovered that the husband and two daughters fatally shot themselves.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office officials say the decision on whether to seek the death penalty will be made by the state attorney's office within 45 days.
A grand jury is required in Florida, for any case in which the death penalty could be sought.
Master Deputy Bradley Link was killed, and deputies Stefano Gargano and Harold Howell were injured, when emergency personnel responded to a disturbance at a home on Brookside Drive in Eustis on Aug. 2.
An arrest affidavit shows the neighbor who called 911 and said Julie Sulpizio was physically attacking his family, said Sulpizio called them “sinners,” and that “God was her husband.”
And the affidavit says after the attack, Sulpizio told deputies she was trying to lure her neighbors, who were “sinners,” into the family’s home so they could be killed by her husband.
She also told investigators she shot two of the family’s dogs, which deputies say were found dead. Sulpizio said the dogs were “vessels for Lucy” which was short for “Lucifer.”
