ORLANDO, Fla. — Tuesday was Primary Day in Florida, and we followed a number of races locally and statewide.
Spectrum News had team coverage of the vote count as it happend.
Florida Senate Primary
Who will face Sen. Rick Scott in November? Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is running against former attorney Brian Rush, Navy veteran Stanley Campbell and Rod Joseph, an Army veteran.
Mucarsel-Powell appears to have the most support, even speaking during a recent Joe Biden visit to Tampa before he dropped out of the race.
Scott also faces two opponents Tuesday, but both he and Mucarsel-Powell are expected to score easy wins.
Congressional District 1 Republican Primary
The seat is currently held by Rep. Matt Gaetz, and has been since 2017. Gaetz was instrumental in ousting former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy from his position, and is backed by former President Donald Trump.
Perhaps due to the high profile of Gaetz, the primary race has been expensive. More than $5.1 million has been spent between Gaetz and Navy veteran Aaron Dimmock according to Politico. It should be noted that Gaetz is also a possible contender for the governor's mansion after Gov DeSantis' term.
Congressional District 8 Primary
The District 8 primary will be interesting to watch, mainly because the incumbent is not running for reelection.
Rep. Bill Posey, who has retained the seat since 2008, announced that he will not run in 2024. He later endorsed Mike Haridopolos, who is running in the Republican primary. For context, Posey has enjoyed support of at least 60% for the past several races, making it a fairly Republican district. Opposing Haridopolos are John Hearton and Joseph Babits. Democrats have a primary of their own for this race as well between Sandy Kennedy and Daniel McDow.
Several of the candidates attended a community conversation with Spectrum News. The full interview is available here.
Congressional District 13 Democratic Primary
Candidates for U.S. House District 13 gathered for a community conversation about the economy, abortion, Social Security, immigration and national security — hosted by Spectrum Bay News 9 anchor Holly Gregory and Tampa Bay Times political reporter Kirby Wilson.
The candidates are vying to compete in November against Republican Anna Paulina Luna.

Florida Senate District 15 Democratic Primary
The Republican primary election was canceled. Incumbent state Sen. Geraldine Thompson faces a challenge from former state Sen. Randolph Bracy III. This race has been contentious in the past, with both candidates claiming that the other doesn't live in the district they wish to represent. Thompson won election to this seat in 2022 with 53.2% of the vote, and served as a state representative in District 44. Bracy last ran against Rep. Maxwell Frost for the chance to represent U.S. House District 10. Before that race, he served in the state Senate for District 11.
Lake County Commission District 1 Republican Primary
The Republican primary for the County Commission includes Anthony Sabatini, who previously was running for the U.S. House in District 11, before he withdrew and submitted for this race. He's running against Douglas Bruce Shields and Sam Simmons. This race will be essentially decided Tuesday, since there isn't a Democratic primary for this race.
Orange County Commission District 1
Incumbent Nicole Wilson and Austin Arthur are competing for Orange County Commission District 1.
Osceola County Sheriff
The incumbent, Marcos Lopez, is running against four other candidates to retain his seat as sheriff. He's running against Wiley Black, Luis "Tony" Fernandez, Russ Gibson, and Amaryllis Rivera.
Volusia County Chair
There are four candidates running for the Volusia County Chair. Incumbent Jeff Brower will take on Don Burnette, Deborah "Deb" Denys, and Randy Dye. The top candidate needs to clear at least 50% of the vote in order to win the election Tuesday. Otherwise, the top two candidates will head to a runoff election in November.
