ORLANDO, Fla. — Art has come alive Thursday in downtown Orlando with the installation of giant, neon pigeons perched on rooftops.

“Big City Birds,” by artist Brendan O'Connor, is the second installment of the DTOLive initiative between the City of Orlando’s Downtown Development Board, United Arts of Central Florida and Creative City Project.

The unique art experience through DTOLive will feature over 800 free art and cultural events to 11 public spaces in downtown Orlando through June 2025.

The 16-foot-tall colorful, inflatable pigeons will be displayed through Oct. 17, 2024. They can be seen on top of the buildings at:

  • 30 South Orange Avenue 
  • Stagger Inn at 100 East Central Boulevard
  • Wall Street Cantina at 19 North Orange Avenue
  • Aero Rooftop Bar & Lounge at 60 North Orange Avenue
  • Taco Kat at 11 South Court Street
  • Casey's on Central at 50 East Central Blvd, Suite E

According to officials, the new art exhibit "is designed to enhance urban vibrancy, support local businesses, and welcome community engagement. It invites viewers to reconsider the resilience and adaptability of urban wildlife, fostering a deeper connection with our city’s environment.”

The downtown development board has provided funding to United Arts of Central Florida for the development and execution of the DTOLive project. United Arts is responsible for managing the events.
