VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County hosted a grand opening celebration ride Friday morning to ring in the completion of the new DeLand SunRail train station. 

Central Florida and state leaders like Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, local commissioners and officials with the Florida Department of Transportation, took part in the ride Friday.

The new DeLand station will officially open to the public on Aug. 12.

The station provides connectivity between DeLand and DeBary, expanding affordable and accessible transportation options throughout Central Florida.

In May, officials began testing the 12 miles of new track. On Monday, it will officially be open for public riders.

The expansion will also connect four Central Florida counties with 17 train stations, covering over 61 miles.

SunRail runs north and south of the region from Volusia County to Osceola County, and there are talks of expanding access east and west in the future.
