ORLANDO, Fla. — An Orlando church that was set for renovations is now left with a much bigger mess after its roof collapsed Tuesday evening.

What You Need To Know

  • The roof collapsed in the middle of the main sanctuary of the True Deliverance Church

  • Orange County Fire Rescue officials say the daycare located at the back of the church did not sustain any damages

  • Even though the church had halted services there over a year ago, the daycare was still operational

  • No one was injured in the collapse

The incident happened at the True Deliverance Church and daycare on South Ivey Lane in the Orlo Vista area.

Fire officials said the daycare was closed for the evening and no one was injured. The cause of the collapse is still undetermined.

The daycare had been open just a few hours earlier.

The owner and pastor who built the church from the ground up 37 years ago calls it a blessing in disguise.

Orange County firefighters got the call Tuesday afternoon by a neighbor living adjacent to the church who claimed to have heard a crack.

The last people inside were said to have left the building just an hour before fire rescue arrived at the scene.

Firefighters did a primary search of the daycare and found that there was no damage.

According to fire rescue, the pastor had been seeking a contractor to get work done on the roof for some time.

“Fortunately, nobody was in there," Orange County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Antonio Demings said. "Like I said, they hadn’t been having service in the church, so sounds like he was doing everything that he could to make sure they could get a new roof.”

The building inspector said that he condemned the building.
