CENTRAL FLORIDA — With an eye on Tropical Storm Debby in the Gulf of Mexico, many counties and municipalities have opened sandbag locations to help residents prepare their homes for possible inclement weather.

Flagler County

  • City of Palm Coast — Public Works

Lake County

Lake County sandbag operations are open at the following locations.

    • Self-service; staff will provide bags for use. There is an eight-sandbag limit. Supplies for both are limited. If you are physically unable to fill sandbags, city staff will be available to assist those in need.
  • City of Winter Park — Rollins Softball Field parking lot 
    • 452 Harper St., Winter Park; Enter via Harper Street
    • Open Saturday, Aug. 3, 8 a.m. - noon
    • Self-service; A number of sandbags will be provided while supplies last, but you may bring your own. There is an four-sandbag limit.
    • Bring a proof of residency, such as a driver’s license, other valid ID or a utility bill statement.

Osceola County

The county and the cities of Kissimmee and St. Cloud are working together on this operation.

  • Osceola Heritage Park 
    • 1211 Shake Rag Road, Kissimmee  
    • Open Friday, Aug. 2, 3 p.m. - 7 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 3, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
    • Self-service; staff will provide bags for use. There is a 25-sandbag limit.
    • Bring a shovel or other filling tool.

SANDBAG DISPOSAL: Osceola County recommends that residents store uncontaminated sandbags for reuse during possible future storms. Residents wishing to dispose of sandbags may take them to the Bass Road Yard Waste Disposal Site at 750 S. Bass Road in Kissimmee.

Seminole County

Seminole County sandbag operations are open at the following locations.   

  • Boombah Sports Complex 
  • City of Lake Mary — Lake Mary Sports Complex

    • Self-service; Staff will provide bags. There is a 10-sandbag limit.
       
  • City of Oviedo — City Public Works Yard 
    • 1725 Evans Street, Oviedo  - The entrance and exit will be on Evans Street off County Road 419. Evans Street and Lockwood Blvd will be shut down to through traffic.
    • Open Saturday, Aug. 3, 9 a.m. to noon 
    • Self-service; Staff will hand out bags, but bring a shovel. There is a 10-bag limit.
       
  • City of Sanford — Sanford Public Works 
  • City of Winter Springs — Central Winds Park 

"SANDBAG DISPOSAL: Do not put filled sandbags on the curbside. They will not be picked up. If dry, consider keeping them through the end of Hurricane Season (November 30). Otherwise, empty the sand or dirt and dispose of bags in normal trash. They may also be brought to the Landfill." 

Sumter County

The county's sandbag operations are open at the following location.

  • Lake Panasoffkee Regional Recreation Park 
    • 1589 County Road 459, Lake Panasoffkee  
    • Open Saturday, Aug. 3, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
    • Self-service; staff will provide bags for use. There is a 10-sandbag limit.
    • Bring a shovel or other filling tool and proof of residence.

Volusia County

Volusia County sandbag operations are open at the following locations.   

  • Osteen Fire Station #36 
    • 180 N. State Road, Osteen  
    • Open starting Friday, Aug. 2 and Saturday, Aug. 3;  hours not announced
    • Sandbags are pre-filled.

  • City of Daytona Beach — Bethune Point Park 
    • 11 Bellevue Ave. in Daytona Beach  
    • Open Saturday, Aug. 3, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m.
    • Self-service, but city personnel will be on hand to help residents who need assistance. Empty sandbags will be provided to fill. There is a 10-sandbag limit.
    • Bring a shovel.
  • City of DeLand — Parking lot south of Melching Field 
    • 601 South Woodland Blvd., at the corner of East Hubbard Avenue and South Woodland Boulevard
    • Open Saturday, Aug. 2, 8 a.m. - noon
    • Self-service; Sandbags and sand will be provided. There is a 10-sandbag limit per residence.
    • Bring proof of residency and a shovel.
  • City of Deltona — Festival Park 
    • 191 Howland Blvd., Deltona  
    • Open Friday, Aug. 2, noon - 6 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 3, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
    • Self-service; staff will provide bags for use, but this is a self-service site. There is a 10-sandbag limit.
    • Bring proof of residency and a shovel.
  • City of Edgewater
    • Southwest Corner of Hibiscus Drive and 26th Street, Edgewater
    • Open Friday, Aug. 2 and Saturday, Aug. 3, 24 hours a day
    • Unstaffed. There is a 10-bag limit.
    • Bring your own shovels and empty sandbags
  • City of Edgewater — Mango Tree Lake 
    • 901 Mango Tree Drive, Edgewater  
    • Open Friday and Saturday, 24 hours a day, but it will be staffed Friday, Aug. 2, 3:30 - 7 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 3, 9 a.m. - noon
    • Self-service; staff will provide bags for use when the site is staffed, but this is a self-service site. There is a 10-sandbag limit.
    • During unstaffed hours, bring your own shovels and bags.
  •   City of New Smyrna Beach — New Smyrna Beach Sports Complex Football Stadium 
    • 2335 Sunset Drive, New Smyrna Beach (next to the stadium)
    • Open 24 hours a day now through the weekend, until sand is depleted
    • Self-service; sand and fillable bags will be available. There is a 15-sandbag limit.
    • Bring a shovel to fill bags.
     
  • City of Port Orange — City Center Sports Complex 
    • The sandbag site is in the field next to the REC Center at 4655 City Center Circle in Port Orange  
    • Open starting Friday, Aug. 2, noon - 7 p.m. It will also be open Saturday, Aug. 3, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. (Hours could change, depending on weather.)
    • Staff will provide bags for use, but this is a self-service site. There is a 10-sandbag limit.
