From the moment she walks into their Greenway Elementary School classroom, Schrimsher says she makes it her priority to give her best to them.

"If I’m not giving my best toward them, they're definitely not going to be giving me their best either,” she said.

For example, she used a lesson about horses during the school year to help them learn how to read.

Schrimsher spends one-on-one time with her first-grade students, too.

"We like to make sure that they're just learning at all times," she said. "So, my favorite thing is making sure that I have activities for them to do on their own level that will challenge them just a little bit, but also make their confidence go up a lot."

Schrimsher is somewhat new to the profession, but her passion is unwavering.

"I personally don't have any kids at home yet, but I think about them constantly. So, I have 21 kids," she said. "Just knowing that they're here and they're safe and they're learning is the best part about it. If people stepped foot into our classroom, they would really understand that it's not just coming here, and we have them for six hours. They become a part of our lives."
