MELBOURNE, Fla. β The Hubbs SeaWorld Research Institute and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission rescued a baby dolphin Friday that was found entangled in a fishing line in the Indian River Lagoon.
Officials said they have been monitoring the dolphin since June 23 after getting reports from people saying it had fishing line wrapped around its rear flipper, called a fluke.
The team was able to surround the dolphin with a net on Friday so medical staff with Hubbs Research could cut the line and conduct a quick check-up before releasing the dolphin back into the water near the Melbourne Causeway.
